External Thermal Insulation Composite System (ETICS) is a multilayer compact insulation solution that may be used to increase the energy efficiency of buildings.


The system has a predetermined order in which the layers are added. This arrangement can have anywhere from six to seven to even eight layers which go in the following order of placement: a wall structure (substrate), the adhesive (basic fixing), the thermal insulation, the anchor (and if need be, additional fixing), a reinforcement layer (generally is a base coat embedded with glass fiber mesh), the key coating (if required), the finishing coat (that renders),  any primers (this is also optional), and finally, the decorative coats (again, optional).
